CENTENNIAL CAMPOREE UPDATE

Registration

After parking, the unit's Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader are to come to registration Friday evening with the following items:

· A roster of youth and adults attending

· Payment for all participants not paid in full

· A list of Order of the Arrow Ordeal candidates who are attending the camporee and wish to be tapped out Saturday evening

· We would appreciate the name and cell phone of anyone in your troop with EMT or greater medical training. While we will have medical coverage, we always appreciate extra help if needed.

· You will be given your troop's t-shirts, a camporee booklet for each participant, wristbands, camping and program maps, parking permits, inspection criteria and emergency contact information.

· Please ask each person leaving their car in the park for the weekend to indicate on the permit what troop they are staying with. If you would like to print them and complete them before the event, they are available on our website and blog.

Camping

· We were just informed late this afternoon that no firewood may be brought into the park unless it is certified as kiln dried and originated within 50 miles of the Blue Mountain Park. This is a Westchester Park's Department response to the Asian Long Horned Beetle crisis. We realize this causes an inconvenience for many troops, but there are no exceptions. There is very little wood available in the park for burning.

· Please keep in mind that no propane tanks larger than 1 pound are allowed in the park.

· The campsite locations by troop will be laid out Thursday morning. We will email a copy to all troops Thursday afternoon or early Thursday evening. It will also be posted to the web site and blog.

· We are requesting that all bathroom structures at the park be limited for use by adults only. We had a tremendous problem with bathroom cleanliness and damage at the last camporee and want to avoid a repeat of that situation. Portable bathrooms will be in place throughout the park for use by your Scouts and will be cleaned Saturday afternoon.

Other Items

· We continue to search for lifeguards, 17 or older, with current BSA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard certifications. Please contact Steve Hammonds if you have someone in your troop that possesses these certifications and is willing to help on Saturday with the boating.

· We will be communicating during the camporee using Twitter. If you have a Twitter account, follow "wpcbsa 2010 camporee" If you do not have a Twitter account, you will want to sign up for one. It is free. Please also encourage your Scouts to follow our camporee Tweets. Get updates via SMS by texting follow wpcbsa2010campo to 40404 (standard txt messaging rates apply).

Camporee Parking Permit

Parking Permits will be handed out at Registration, but you may print out this form and fill it out before hand. The permit should be displayed in your windshield. Click on the image below, and then print out as many as you need. Please write in legible marker.

At the close of registration, we have 56 troops and 1,135 participants who are attending the 2010 Centennial Camporee!

Camporee Leaders Meeting

All Boy Scout/Venture adult leaders are invited to a meeting at Amalgamated Life Insurance Company in White Plains on Wednesday evening, March 24th, 7:30 PM. At this meeting the details of the Council Spring Camporee, will be distributed and reviewed in detail. Directions to Amalgamated Life are below.

Every Boy Scout troop in our council should be planning to attend this fantastic event, to be held at the Blue Mountain Park on the weekend of April 30 to May 2. Registration for the event is due by March 15th. Any unit attending the leaders meeting on the 24th can register at that time without incurring the late fee. The initial event information packet, which includes the registration form is attached to this email.

Directions to Amalgamated Life Insurance Company:

From 287 east: Take exit 8E to merge onto Westchester Avenue. Entrance is on the right.

From 287 west: Exit onto N. Westchester Avenue, turn left at White Plains Avenue, turn left at Westchester Avenue. Entrance is on right.

February 17 Meeting

Additional details were finalized at our February 17 meeting. We expect to have fully-detailed registration packets available at March Roundtables. If you cannot attend Roundtable, the packet will be available on the WPC web site. A briefing for all Scoutmaster or Troop Representatives will be held on March 24 (location TBA). You should attend this meeting whether you plan on attending or not. If you decide to attend and register your troop that night, we will waive the late fees.

We're also looking for volunteers to be a part of our "Vintage" Boy Scout Troops! There will be four "troops," one representing the 1910-1920 period, the 1940-1950 period, the 1960-1970 period, and 2010. Each "troop" will consist of four boys and two adults, wearing uniforms appropriate to the period. Each troop will set up a small "camp." We're looking to borrow "period appropriate" stuff to populate our camps, like old tents, coolers, wooden crates, etc. Have anything we can borrow? Want to volunteer to help out? Please contact us.

Recap of January 6 Meeting

January 6 Meeting - Encampments

Camping for the Centennial Camporee will be "jamboree style." There will be 8 encampments at the event. Each troop attending will be assigned a camping area within one of those encampments. Every attendee will be provided a T-shirt to be worn throughout the day. Everyone in your encampment will be wearing the same color T-shirt, so you know which group to follow throughout the day! Each encampment will have its own activities and functions. One of these activities will be the Skit and Performance Competition on Friday night. This will determine who will represent the Encampment at the Saturday Night Campfire. Each encampment will also have its own flag raising and flag lowering ceremony.

Each encampment area will have its own dining fly to function as a group Headquarters. Each encampment area will also have its own group fire container, American flag, encampment flag, ax yard, and a few picnic tables to share.

Each troop will have a list of Required Equipment to bring to the Camporee. Because of the number of attendees we are expecting, we strongly suggest the use of gas stoves for cooking. We are also going to strongly discourage single-occupancy tents in order to maximize the space available for camping.

Most likely, you will be camping alongside troops from outside your home district. We encourage you to make friends with your neighbor and get to know your fellow Scouts!
